Competitive Cheer Registration -
****PLEASE DO NOT REGISTER FOR SIDELINE CHEER IF YOU ARE PLANNING TO REGISTER FOR COMPETITIVE CHEER – THEY ARE SEPARATE PROGRAMS****
The Howard County Department of Recreation and Parks, in partnership with East Howard Jaguars, Inc., is proud to offer a comprehensive competitive cheerleading program this fall!
This program provides athletes with the unique opportunity to experience both sideline and competitive cheerleading. From August through November, participants will support East Howard Jaguars football games by leading crowd-energizing sideline cheers and promoting team spirit. Athletes will learn age and skill appropriate cheers, jumps, stunts, and pyramids to perform at games and events throughout the fall season. Choreography for our competition routines will also be taught during this time.
Beginning in November and continuing through April/May, the focus shifts to competitive cheerleading, where athletes will train in choreographed routines to perform at local and regional competitions. The competitive season emphasizes performance technique, team synchronization, and skill development. While formal tumbling instruction is not provided, athletes with prior tumbling experience may be permitted to incorporate their skills into routines with coach approval.
Please note: Competitive cheerleading is significantly more demanding than sideline cheer and is intended for athletes who are committed, disciplined, and able to meet the increased physical demands and time commitment of the program. Consistent attendance is mandatory, as each athlete plays a critical role in team safety, timing, and overall performance. All teams, with the exception of 14U (Level 2), will practice two days per week. The 14U (Level 2) team will practice three days per week. As competition dates approach, additional practices may be added, and all scheduled practices are mandatory. Some travel will be required. Families should carefully consider these expectations prior to registration to ensure their athlete can fully commit to the competitive season.
New This Season! We’re excited to announce that we are expanding our program and are opening Level 2 registration to athletes 17 and under for the upcoming season! Please note: This team is intended for experienced athletes only. Level 2 requires prior cheer and/or gymnastics experience. If you have any questions about whether this team is the right fit for your athlete, please reach out to east.howardcheer@gmail.com prior to registering.
Although prior cheerleading experience is helpful, it is not required—just bring your energy and enthusiasm!
